Vancouver 2010 - What It Took to Get Here - Time, Team and Trust
February 19, 2010
At 60 days prior to the opening ceremonies, my anxiety was mounting. Where was I in the crowd of 77,000 volunteer applicants? No feedback or news of an interview made staying the course a challenge.
At Felix®, I help professionals navigate transitions fraught with emotion. This personal transition tested all I that I taught. Could I stay the course-true to my resolve, and trust my belief in knowing what was right for me? Along the bumpy road of my quest, I experienced certitude and anxiety, hopefulness and doubt, fear and hope. My ‘transition team’ helped me gain and hold my belief and they reminded me to ask “What is your picture of success and where are you best able to create it?”
At day 45 prior to opening day, I landed my ‘games-time leadership role’. I became a Team Lead at the Pacific Coliseum, the venue for figure skating and short-track speed skating. I was on the road to belonging, participating and creating a meaningful contribution. Living my dream was fast approaching.
In my next mini-report I'll share the reality of my games-time leadership role, the challenges of performing under pressure and the thrill of welcoming the world to Vancouver.
Highlights of living my dream:
1. Hold your belief and trust in yourself
2. Saying no takes strength and stamina
3. Create the right transition team for you
