TOPP: Criteria for Success

June 1, 2010

TOPP: Criteria for Success - created by Niki Rankin V.P., Leadership & Consulting Solutions

Team Optimum Performance Program (TOPP) is an action/learning vehicle focused on real-time business issues and objectives – in other words, the natural fuel oil to getting business results. TOPP is a process of change as individuals and teams of people gain insight, greater self awareness, unlearn old behaviors, and learn and practice new, more effective ways to interact and achieve desired business outcomes.

TOPP is designed to build personal and team capability in the execution of business plans, and is based on the following principles. These principles are fundamental to achieving and sustaining behavioral change – if they are not fully realized the likelihood of success is minimized.

Commitment

Higher team performance is driven from the top and cascaded down the organization. Leaders at the top must be willing to leverage their strengths and embrace new ways of “being”. Also, they must own the change to higher performance as part of their formal accountabilities and responsibilities. Only in this way do people throughout the organization find adequate evidence of the importance of the change so that they will choose to invest themselves fully in the process and take ownership for achieving the desired outcomes.

Results orientation

Team optimization needs to be implemented within the context of what the organization is trying to achieve – its business purpose, goals and objectives/results. It is only within that context that team optimization has meaning and catalyzes higher performance.

Individual awareness

Each of us brings “who we are to what we do”. When people have a full understanding of whom they are and how to most effectively express and utilize their strengths, and to manage their developmental areas, they add more value and contribution to their organization.

Team awareness

Identifying, understanding and effectively managing individual interactions between team members and team behavioral patterns can enhance performance and advance the organization.
