Assessments: secret weapons of the world's brand leaders
September 5, 2010
Many world-leading businesses have an ace up their sleeve when it comes to building high performance cultures and developing internal talent, says Jim Graham, President & CEO of Felix Global Corp.
In today’s knowledge economy, market leaders must be able to identify, hire and develop competitive talent faster and more efficiently than ever before," says Graham.
Key to doing so, is the appropriate use of technology-enabled, scientifically valid assessment tools to improve selection efficiency, quality of hire and time to productivity once on board.
On March 1, Felix hosted an invitation-only professional seminar for select HR leaders featuring international assessment expert Norman Buckley from Australia. Buckley spoke about emerging best practices in workplace assessment and how to choose and use assessment tools to the greatest advantage.
Buckley suggests that for these tools to be most effective, they should meet some basic criteria before being deployed in a corporate environment.
Buckley suggests that organizations look for assessment intstruments that are:
- based on a broadly-accepted underlying psychological theory.
- rigorously validated.
- designed for use in the workplace, rather than for clinical applications.
- easy to use so they’re not abandoned over time.
- ideally, multi-purpose and able to cover the range of applications with one instrument – to avoid "survey burnout."
